In this blog article we include a description of some of the most prominent features that have been recently included in the product with the release v2.1.0. These features are the support of AutoCAD files, new app for viewing protected files in Mac OSX, protection of video and audio file formats, and performance improvements included in the protection/opening of encrypted files. Apart from these features the version includes other minor features and fixes for issues reported by customers.
Protection and control of AutoCAD files
As it was announced several weeks ago, the new version for Q4-2014 includes support for protecting and tracking AutoCAD designs. Thanks to the SealPath protection, users working in the design, manufacturing or engineering industries will be able to share securely their designs or critical CAD files with their collaborators.
The protection features that can be applied to CAD documents are similar to the ones of other file formats:
- Permissions restrictions: View only, edit, print, export contents, add users or full control.
- Possibility of assigning expirations dates to the documents.
- Possibility of accessing offline the documents for X days.
Once protected you will be able to revoke access remotely, give and remove access in real time, control who and when the document is being opened, check if someone is trying to open the document without permissions, if someone is adding other users to access the document or if a user with full control permissions has unprotected the document.
SealPath protection for AutoCAD is fully integrated in the AutoDesk’s AutoCAD product suite. The AutoCAD designs can be protected with SealPath Desktop in the same way you protect files with other formats. To open them, the users need the new AutoCAD plugin. You can get more information or get the AutoCAD plugin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
New app for viewing protected documents in Mac OSX
SealPath allows viewing, editing, etc. protected Microsoft Office documents through Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac OSX without needing to download any additional plugin or software. For other file formats such as PDFs, text plain, rich text, images or even Office formats the users can use the new SealPath viewer application for Mac OSX. The SealPath’s user can download the application for free from iTunes through the following link:
Using this application is very easy. You just need to “double-click” over a protected file and after login in SealPath (you need to login only once), you will be able to access to the protected document in SealPath Viewer for Mac OSX. If the protector user has protected the document including dynamic watermarks you will see your email address, IP address and date/time in every page of the document.
The documents keep the protection properties that have been established such as expiration dates or possibility of accessing in offline mode.
Video and audio files protection
With the new version, SealPath allows the encryption of video and audio formats. You will be able to protect these type of formats so that only the users with the right permission can open them, and you will be able to configure expiration dates so that they can only be opened until a specific date.
You will have a complete tracking regarding the accesses of the video and audio files: Who and when they are opened, who has tried to access them without permissions, etc. The difference with other formats is that the protection for video and audio is encryption plus identity control, but the user, once the file has been opened, can “Save as…” the file, to store it unprotected. To open the video and audio files the users will use the standard applications installed in their PCs.
.mp4, .avi, etc. formats are supported for video and for audio, the most used formats such as .mp3 are used.
Performance improvements for protecting and opening large files
The performance for protecting or opening large files has been dramatically improved. The time spent protecting and opening files of 200 MB has been decreased in more than 10x. This makes easier the management of protected video, audio or CAD large files.
